Baylous confirmed for U.S. Marshal post

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Former West Virginia State Police spokesman Lt. Michael Baylous was confirmed Thursday by the U.S. Senate to serve as U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of West Virginia.

Baylous was recommended to President Donald Trump by U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito last year.

“There is no doubt that he has a strong commitment to maintaining the rule of law and ensuring West Virginians are safe,” Capito said in a statement released Thursday evening. “I am thrilled the Senate has confirmed him and look forward to working with him in his new role.”

Baylous first began serving with the state police in 1994 and previously served in the Marine Corps Reserves from 1987 to 1995. He holds a M.A. in Government and Public Administration from Regent University, a B.A. in Political Science from WVU, and an A.A. in Political Science from Marshall University.

U.S. Marshal Service duties include witness protection, judicial security, transporting prisoners, and apprehension of federal fugitives.
