Epling’s Body Discovered Wednesday Afternoon

CANAAN VALLEY, W.Va. — The search for a missing Lewisburg man came to a tragic end in Canaan Valley mid-afternoon Wednesday.

A West Virginia National Guard Helicopter spotted Raymond Eugene Epling’s body in a wooded area about 1.5 miles from the house on Mirror Lake Drive that he had been staying at before his disappearance early Sunday morning.

Searchers recovered Epling’s body around 2:45 p.m.

Epling, 76, was suffering Alzheimer’s disease at the time of his disappearance.

In a release to the media, a representative from the Canaan Valley Fire Department said Mr. Epling’s family expressed their gratitude to all those who had helped in the search.
