Freedom is brief for two men who escaped from the Pruntytown Correctional Facility. 34-year-old Thomas Banig and 28-year-old Michael Flinn were caught just after nine o-clock Wednesday morning in the Rosemont area of Taylor County by Sheriff's deputies. Banig was serving time for being a felon in possession of a firearm and Flinn was incarcerated for making and selling drugs.
Health Rite officials in downtown Morgantown are afraid they're soon not going to be able to provide prescription drugs to patients. Executive Director Laura Jones says new regulations from the stat Board of Pharmacy require them to have a pharmacist on duty to administer prescription drugs. (Jones Audio Clip)
Health Rite and other free clinics around the state depend on volunteer doctors and would not have the money to hire a full-time pharmacists. Jones says it would be difficult to find volunteer pharmacists because there is a shortage of pharmacists in West Virginia. That would mean a cutback in hours the pharmacy is open which could mean those who travel long distances to the clinic would have to make multiple trips. Governor Joe Manchin is now looking into the new regulations and it's Jones hope that they can be changed.
Speaking of Governor Manchin he will speak next week at the Democratic National Convention. Manchin was added yesterday to the list of speakers and is scheduled to speak in primetime on Tuesday.
Morgantown city council approves a 12 percent rate hike for MUB...again. Council approved the rate hike last month, but repealled it because it made several changes and wanted to hold another public hearing on the changes, which it did last night.
WVU police chief Bob Roberts says the first weekend before school and last night following the first day of classes was fairly uneventful from his standpoint. Roberts says there wasn't anything unusual. His department is investigating a pair of burglaries at a downtown residence hall. They both happened Friday night at Boreman Hall South. Items stolen included three laptop computers, one Xbox and an AM/FM radio with iPod dock. In both cases, doors were left unlocked or open. Anyone with information about these incidents or any incident on the WVU campus is asked to contact University Police at 293-2677 or 293-COPS.
A Harrison County man will spend 18 months in federal prison for tax evasion. 58-year-old George Steven Rogers of Mount Clare was sentenced this week
For the second straight year Target is not accepting the state's clothing vouchers handed out to low-income families. The national chain has decided not to accept the $200 vouchers because of technical issues. Target officials says they've tried to accomodate the state, but can't resolve the differences. State officials say Target is the only retailer they know of that won't accept the vouchers.
