MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A day of swimming on Cheat Lake turned tragic when a man dove into the water and did not surface.
Friends identified the man as Moses Kwesi Tetteh Lawer-Yolar. A Ghana native, Lawer-Yolar went to Morgantown High School and then attended West Virginia University.
Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department reports Lawer-Yolar drowned Monday afternoon. Friends reported the man jumped from some rocks and did not resurface. Friends tried unsuccessfully to rescue him. Emergency crews arrived on scene around 3 p.m. Witnesses said the man had been in the water for about 10 minutes before 911 was called.
Rescuers were able to pulled Lawer-Yolar and attempted CPR.
