KINGWOOD — Bond was set at $500,000 for a man police say threatened to ram his Honda Civic through the gates at Camp Dawson so he could get to his wife and kill her.

John Richard Henson, 35, of Terra Alta, is charged with making terroristic threats and attempted murder. He was in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on Feb. 15.

According to the criminal complaint by Preston Sheriff’s Lt. T.E. Mitter:

On Feb. 14, Henson’s wife, who works at Camp Dawson, showed security officers texts from her husband, saying he was coming to shoot her. When he arrived at the gate, Henson became belligerent when told to leave, appeared to be searching for something in the car, began revving the car’s engine and threatened to ram the gate.

Security officers convinced him to turn and pull out. Deputies found him on St. Joe Road, boxed the Honda in and arrested Henson. Deputies found he had a concealed Keltec 9 mm semi-automatic pistol with seven rounds in the magazine.

Mrs. Henson said she told her husband she was leaving him after he kicked their 8-year-old in the stomach and beat him. He sent her photos of him driving to Camp Dawson and texted her while he was at the gate, saying he was going to ram it.
