Republic Services seeks contract change

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following a meeting between Republic Services officials and the Mon County commission major changes to contract could be coming.

Currently, the County collects around 700 tons a year in recycling from the Westover area and the Saturday (Walmart area) mobile program and pays nothing. The contract change would be a $35-per-ton fee for all the tonnage.

If significant changes cannot be made by the public Republic has asked for the increase to be implemented within 60 days.

Contaminated recycling led Republic officials to ask for the contract change.

Republic officials and commissioners will meet again on February 12 to discuss the matter.
