Stabbing at Clarksburg Convenience Store Ruled as Act of Self-Defense

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A stabbing that took place last week at a convenience store in Harrison County has been determined to be an act of self-defense.

The series of events that led to the incident were set off when Clint Grimes, 37, of Alabama, was dropped of at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center to enter a detox center following an incident in Nutter Fort, according to Sheriff’s deputies investigating the case.

Grimes fled from treatment and walked to the nearby GoMart along Route 19 and West Virginia 98 to purchase more alcohol

The female employee working at the time denied the purchase due to his level of intoxication.

He then allegedly attempted to steal an item from the store. The employee and her fiance confronted Grimes and asked him to leave the premises.

When the fiance went outside to check to see if Grimes left, the two got into an altercation that the employee tried to break up.

It was then, reportedly, that Grimes grabbed the woman by the throat and pushed her against a car, prompting her to pull out a knife and stab him in the leg approximately four times.

Emergency services were then called to the scene and Grimes was transported to United Hospital Center to be treated for his non-life threatening injuries.

Police have charged Grimes at this time with misdemeanor battery.
