Two arrested in Morgantown robbery

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.– Two men are in custody after a robbery in Morgantown.

Officers responded to a reported robbery at 3:30 Wednesday morning near the Walnut Street Bridge. Officers found the victim who reported he was accosted by two men and sprayed with pepper spray. The victim said he’d been beaten by the suspects several items were stolen, including a laptop computer, cell phone and wallet. The victim eventually ran away toward the sheriff’s office.

Two men matching the suspects description were spotted near Maryland Ave. and Brockway Ave. but when officers attempted to detain the suspects one immediately fled. Officers gave chase and apprehended the man after a brief struggle that included the suspect being tased.

Jesse Lewis, 22, of Morgantown has been charged with First Degree Robbery and Conspiracy. Matthew Bailey, 20, of Beckley was charged with First Degree Robbery and Conspiracy. Both are being held at the North Central Regional Jail.
