WVU forward suspended for half the season

ahmad_esaMORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia forward Esa Ahmad will miss the first half of the 2017-18 regular season after “failing to meet eligibility requirements.”

The WVU Athletic Department confirmed Ahmad would miss time for an unspecified reason mid-afternoon Tuesday.

Ahmad, originally from Cleveland, is entering his junior season after averaging 11.3 points per game, 4.3 rebounds per game, and nearly 24 minutes per game in 34 games in 2016-17.

A return date is not specifically mentioned, but the midway point of the 32-game schedule is before a January 9 home game against Baylor.

WVU opens its season in Germany on November 10 to face Texas A&M in the Armed Forces Classic.
