PHILIPPI, W.Va. Two people were seriously hurt and one arrested in a suspected drunk driving crash on Saturday.
Deputies from the Barbour County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single vehicle crash on Dec. 30 at 10 p.m. at the intersection of Arden and Center Hill Roads in Philippi.
The front seat passenger reportedly suffered a leg fracture, and the rear seat passenger was unresponsive with a severe head injury.
The driver, James Nice, 39, allegedly had jerky movements, pin-point pupils, and was extremely nervous. A field sobriety test concluded that he had signs of impairment.
Deputies said they found a glass smoking device near the scene of the accident and a bag containing a crystal-like substance.
A blood test at Broaddus Hospital confirmed Nice had amphetamines and cannabis in his system.
Nice is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail and charged with two counts of driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury. A bond has been set at $60,000.
The names and medical conditions of those injured have not been released.
