Elderly man apparently drowns in his Valley Head basement

VALLEY HEAD, W.Va. An elderly Valley Head man apparently drowned in his basement during the recent storm event this week.

Deputies were called to the home by the Valley Head Fire Department on a drowning report Wednesday after a 69-year-old man’s wife found his body in the water.

On Tuesday, the man went to the basement to check the sum pump at 7:30 p.m., according to the report.

Foul play is not suspected, but the investigation is ongoing.

The medical examiner’s office in Charleston will conduct an autopsy.
