MONONGALIA COUNTY, W.Va. Motorists on westbound I-68 encountered a pavement failure that damaged several tires.

State Department of Highways District 4 Engineer Mike Daly said the problem was reported mid-morning and involved an expansion joint on the east end of the right lane of the westbound I-68 Cheat Lake bridge.

“Some of the metal on the expansion joint on the bridge broke and popped up, and the vehicles that hit it had some damage to some tires,” Daly said. “But we have the lane closed, and bridge repairs are underway.”
