MONONGALIA COUNTY, W.Va. The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents about a phone scam being reported.
The caller identifies himself as Lt. James Perry and says he is collecting civil service taxes and demands payment.
Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Mark Ralston reminds residents that police officers will never demand payment for a fine or tax over the phone. Also, anyone asking for prepaid debit cards to pay a fine or tax is likely a scammer.
