Former WVU student charged in November campus assault

CHALRESTON, W.Va. — A former West Virginia University student from Charleston was arrested over the weekend for an on campus assault back in November 2023.

Shawn Higginbotham, 19, of Charleston, allegedly choked, punched, and slapped a female who attempted to wake him up when he was intoxicated.

The West Virginia University Police Department was called to a report of a domestic incident in Dadisman Hall on November 6 at 3 a.m.

Officers did note a bruise on the victim’s neck during the investigation.

Higginbotham was arrested and charged with strangulation. He was booked into the South Central Regional Jail Saturday.
