MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A Morgantown mother is facing child neglect charges after a 1-year-old fell and hit her head early Monday.
Morgantown police were called to the emergency room at 2 a.m. Monday on a report of a child who had hit her head and made contact with Ashley Bennett, 36.
Bennett told police her daughter fell from her lap onto concrete and landed on her head. After the fall, Bennett drove the child to the hospital.
While talking to Bennett, police said she was unsteady on her feet, was swaying while standing still, had slurred speech, and had difficulty following instructions. The police also noted the smell of alcohol on Bennett.
Because Bennett was the sole care provider for the child, she was charged with child neglect resulting in injury.
