MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A Detroit resident is behind bars after Morgantown said they found 80 grams of fentanyl in the car he was driving.
Police saw Deante Hurt, 27, driving a vehicle that was implicated in a hit-and-run from the previous day on High Street.
Hurt was standing near the vehicle, but when he saw police, he got in the car and drove off until officers conducted a traffic stop.
While Hurt was parking the vehicle, police said they observed him reach toward the dash of the vehicle and remove the vent controls. Hurt was also observed reaching into several other areas of the car as police watched.
Officers made contact with Hurt; they smelled a strong odor of marijuana and saw multiple plastic bags sticking out of his pants pocket.
After Hurt was removed from the car, he admitted to having marijuana, which resulted in the vehicle being impounded.
During a search of the impounded vehicle, police found about 84.7 grams of a substance that field tested positive for fentanyl.
Hurt has been charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and is being held in the North Central Regional Jail on a $50,000 bond.
