KINGWOOD, W.Va. — A Bruceton Mills woman has been charged after troopers from the West Virginia State Police allege she crashed while intoxicated causing injuries to a 4-year old child.

On June 22, troopers responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash in the area of Compressor Station Road in Bruceton Mills involving a driver suspected to be intoxicated.

Troppers made contact with Ashleigh Ireland, 31, when they arrived and found her to be disoriented with slurred speech, glassy eyes and smelled like alcohol.

In the vehicle with Ireland was a 4-year-old child in the rear passenger seat with a lower leg injury. The child was transported to Preston Memorial Hospital fractured bone in the lower leg.

During the investigation, Ireland admitted to driving and needed helpto walk to the EMS vehicle for treatment.

Witnesses told troopers they suspected she was intoxacated due to the amount of “day drinking” she is known to do. Ireland also told trooper she killed a bottle of vodka and not properly restraining the 4-year old in the car.

Ireland has been charged with child neglect causing serious bodily injury and is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $20,000 bond.
