MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Morgantown Fire Department responded to a fire that killed the family dog on Brockway Avenue Tuesday morning.

Firefighters were dispatched to 545 Brockway Avenue at 9:58 a.m. and found the family had escaped unharmed. Firefighters did locate a dog that died in the blaze.

Investigators believe the fire started in the basement and quickly spread through the home. The home suffered extensive fire, smoke, and water damage.

No firefighters were injured.

The Morgantown Fire Department is conducting the investigation with assistance from the Code Enforcement Department.
