MONONGALIA COUNTY, W.Va. The suspect in the Route 7 hit-and-run that killed one person has waived his preliminary hearing.
David Blaine Emerson, 28, of Morgantown, is accused of speeding and wearing no seatbelts when state troopers attempted to stop the car. Emerson crossed the centerline with police pursuing and hit an amublance traveling in the opposite direction.
The impact killed the female passenger and split the car Emerson was driving in two.
Emerson fled the area but was captured later in the day at a home on Pixler Hill Road.
Magistrate Sandy Holpet rejected a defense motion to reduce bond from $250,000 to $10,000 and place Emerson in a drug treatment center.
The case is now transferred to Monongalia County Circuit Court, where the charges will be presented to a grand jury in September for possible indictment.
