MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A 29-year-old Morgantown man is behind bars accused of driving recklessly while legally drunk with a 7-year-old girl in the car.

On Friday, West Virginia State Police said a car driven by Alexander Kerns was stopped near Airport Boulevard after allegedly passing multiple vehicles on Route 705.

Troopers determined Kerns had a suspended driver’s license, expired registration, and no inspection sticker with a BAC of 0.118 during the investigation.

Troopers also observed a 7-year-old girl in the backseat.

Kerns denied consuming alcohol but displayed signs of impairment and smelled of alcohol.

Kerns has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, driving while a license suspended or revoked, and other misdemeanor charges for expired registrations and certificates.

Kerns is being held in the North Central Regional Jail.
