MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The WVU Board of Governors Ad Hoc Governance Committee met for nearly two hours in an executive session Monday.
“The committee engaged in dialogue on various topics but there were no actions taken as results of today’s executive session discussions,” Committee Chair Dr. Patrice Harris said.
The agenda heading into the meeting said the committee would discuss “confidential, preliminary, and deliberative matters relating to internal Board of Governors operations and institutional succession planning.”
The committee is part of the search for a new WVU president, current president Gordon Gee is set to retire next summer.
Harris, who also chairs the WVU Presidential Search Committee, also provided an update on the search, reading mostly from her open letter to the campus community released last week.
Harris encouraged those of Mountaineer Nation to take the online four-question presidential search survey.
“This will help the search committee and the Board of Governors learn more about the qualities, attributes, areas of expertise our campus community would like to see in our next president,” Harris said. “You’re thoughtful responses will help frame the leadership profile and provide critical guidance to the Presidential Search Committee as candidates are considered.”
The search committee has met once and there’s also been a listening session with the leadership of the WVU Faculty Senate. Harris promised more listening sessions in late-August and September. She said a list of those meetings would be coming out in the weeks ahead.
“I feel very confident that we are off to a strong start and I am encouraged by the participation we have seen thus far,” Harris said.
