MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Morgantown Utility Board (MUB) will hold the annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, August 3, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

MUB Communications Director Chris Dale said there will be flaggers on Greenbag Road to direct residents into the commercial MUB entrance to drop off their items.

“Last year, we did 539 vehicles in three hours and took in 13 tons of material,” Dale said. “I think it comes down to the fact that the fact that we’re unloading a car every 20 seconds, so it’s very busy.”

Dale said the event is not open to businesses, and residents must have proof of residency in Monongalia County. Each family is limited to 50 pounds or 5 gallons, and MUB reserves the right to turn any person or product away.

“Fluids for automobiles, antifreeze, oils, old gasoline, photo chemicals, mercury thermometers, and oil filters,” Dale said.

Dale said any prohibited items will be rejected.

“We do not accept any electronics, no computers, no cell phones, no appliances; we do not take humidifiers or air conditioners; we don’t take ammunition; please don’t bring ammunition; and please don’t bring unmarked cylinders,” Dale said.

Dale said crews will appreciate it if the images are readily accessible in order to keep the line moving so they can get as many people through the process as possible.

“We also ask that you put it in your trunk, or if you have a hatchback, put it by the hatchback, so when we open it we can grab the materials and keep the process flowing,” Dale said.

The event is sponsored by the MUB, the City of Morgantown, the Monongalia County Commission, Republic Services, the Monongalia County Solid Waste Authority, and the City of Westover.
