MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 16 for a teenager charged with murder in Monongalia County.

Arnold Johnson, III, 19, of Montgomery Village, Md. surrendered to detectives Wednesday evening. He is charged with first-degree murder, accused of shooting Rashad Alton, 21 at the Moutain Valley Apartments on July 11.

Witnesses told investigators that Johnson pulled a gun during a verbal altercation and shot Alton in the chest. Alton died at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Johnson was arraigned Thursday in Monongalia County magistrate court. He’s being held at North Central Regional Jail without bond.
