MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Monongalia County Fair, themed Buckles, Bikes, and Bulls this year, will be at the Fairgrounds at Mylan Park from August 20 through 24.
Fair week gets underway Monday, August 19, at 7 p.m. with the Mon County Fair Parade featuring Grand Marshal Steve Harper from Biker Bros. and Bo. Biker Bros. and Bo is a non-profit raising money for scholarships and in support of veteran groups in memory of PFC Andrew “Bo” Harper, of Maidsville, who was killed in action on March 11, 2011 at Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan.
Treasurer Shawnda Cook said all-inclusive admission is $10, and the fair will be open Tuesday through Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m., Friday from 6 to 11 p.m., and Saturday from noon to 11 p.m. Children under the age of 2 are free. Extra parking will be available at the Peak Health Aquatic Center at Mylan Park, and a free shuttle will take residents to and from the fairgrounds.
“Everybody should be excited, and I know the fair board is excited for what we have to offer the community this year,” Cook said.
The midway, operated by C & L Amusements from Mount Pleasant, Pa., will bring attractions for all ages with all of the typical fair food and games as well.
“They’re going to bring a lot more rides and a lot more kid rides this year, and we’re just really glad to partner with them and bring them to West Virginia,” Cook said.
Cook said local food vendors will include T & T Kettle Korn, CJ’s Fresh Lemonade, Fawcett Funnel Cakes, Big Dawg’s Canteen, Gil’s Pit Beef, the Hot Mess Express Cafe & Relaxation Station, and many more.
“We have tons of local food vendors that are going to be here,” Cook said. “There will be some corn; of course you’re going to have hot dogs, funnel cakes, and all the fair food you would expect.”
In addition to community exhibits, activities include Dirt Drag Races, an Antique Car Show, a Diaper Derby, and Mud Bogs.
“We’re going to have some motorsports events, a demolition derby, some ATV races, and a little kids power wheel race,” Cook said.
The livestock auction presented by Joe R. Pyle featured the work of 4-H members throughout the county. The sale will be held on Saturday, August 24 at 6 p.m. For information about bidding in person or online, call 681-668-9334.
“The kids have done a fantastic job getting their animals ready for the fair, the shows, and the auction,” Cook said. “These kids worked very hard, and they’re very excited to show their hard work.”
