CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Students at the Victory Elementary School in Clarksburg were evacuated as a precautionary measure after officials reported the smell of natural gas.

Monday around 8:30 a.m. school officials smelled the odor and made the decision out of an abundance of caution. Students were out of classrooms for about 20 minutes, according the Clarksburg Fire Department.

Investigators from Hope Gas confirmed the incident was caused by a spill of a chemical used to give natural gas it’s smell, not a natural gas leak.

No injuries were reported.
