PLEASANT VALLEY, W.Va. — The Pleasant Valley Elementary School is one of 356 schools nationwide to be named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.
The national award highlights schools that show significant gains or make notable progress in improvements for different student groups.
Pleasant Valley was nominated from the Exemplary High Performing School. Pleasant Valley was recognized in 2019 as a top performer in the Balanced Scorecard by exceeding the standards in three of five subject areas.
Schools that win the award fly a National Blue Ribbon School award flag or display it in a prominent place inside the school.
Schools that apply for the award are required to explain their school culture, programs, assessments, instructional practices, professional development, leadership, family and community involvement.
In West Virginia, the Gilmore Elementary School in Jackson County and Kellogg Elementary School in Wayne County were also recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools.
