NEW MARTINSVILLE, W.Va. — The Wetzel County Republican Executive Committee has released a statement calling for the resignation or expulsion of Mike Maroney, R, Marshal, 2.

The executive committee in Monongalia County also issued the same request, but asked lawmakers to take advantage of the special session to take action.

Maroney was charged with disorderly conduct and indecent exposure Aug.13 for his alleged actions at a Glen Dale gaming parlor. Maroney was arrested again Sept. 23 in McMechon for suspicion of driving under the influence, control of a vehicle under the influence, expired registration, and no registration.

Phillip Wiley, spokesman for the Wetzel County Republican party said Senator Maroney has significant personal issues that he should focus on after his May primary defeat to Chris Rose who is running unopposed in November.

“He was defeated in the primary election by Chris Rose and he doesn’t much linger to be there, so we think it would be better for him and for his constituents if he would step down and take care of some of the other problems he has,” Wiley said.
