MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — This is Homecoming Weekend in Morgantown for West Virginia University and there are plenty of opportunities to welcome alumni and show some Mountaineer spirit.

Kevin Berry

Friday afternoon WVU Alumni Association CEO Kevin Berry said there will be a food truck festival on Prospect Street as Mountaineers prepare for the Homecoming Parade down High Street at 6 p.m.

“The Homecoming Parade is one of West Virginia University’s most beloved traditions and I encourage people to come out Friday night to either participate or watch,” Berry said.

Units will begin staging for the parade around 4:30 p.m., so residents should expect downtown traffic congestion for most of the afternoon as preparations are made for one of the most popular events of the weekend.

“Certainly more than 10, and maybe approaching 20,000 people on High Street for that,” Berry said. “Obviously, we’re going to have plenty of people participating in it and we’ll close out with the Pride of West Virginia.”

The Ericson Alumni Center will be open throughout the day Friday to welcome alumni back to Morgantown for the game and share a memory.

“You’ll have a chance to spend some time with us and other alumni and pick up a Flying WV cookie on the way out,” Berry said.

Leading up to the 7:30 p.m. kick with the #17 Kansas State Wildcats the parking areas will be awash with tailgates as well as receptions and gatherings across campus.

“Of course, plenty of activity on Saturday between tailgates, the big game and we’re going to recognize some outstanding alumni during halftime of the game for their service to West Virginia University.”

The following alumni will be recognized during halftime of the game Tracy Schoenadel, Laura Boyd, BillNevin, Paul Lewis, Andy Richardson, Mallory Willink, and Chris Morlock. The Homecoming court includes Maria Amores, Emily Coram, Hannah Warden, Shaye Potter, Kayla Workman, Alexandria Spiker, Lauren Marquart, Makenzie Keplinger, Megan Frappier, and Trixie Calissie.

“These individuals in different and unique ways have provided exemplary service to WVU,” Berry said. “And don’t forget as part of halftime we’ll recognize two students for the work they’ve done for West Virginia University as well.”
