MARION COUNTY, W.Va. — A Marion County woman has been charged with child neglect causing risk of injury after admitting to using methamphetamine in the presence of her 1-year-old toddler.

Wednesday, troopers from the West Virginia State Police and Child Protective Services workers conducted a home check at a residence on Underwood Street in Baxter after receiving an anonymous complaint that Alyssa Maze, 36, and other adults were in the home using and selling methamphetamine with young children inside.

When troopers and CPS workers knocked on the door to the home, they observed Maze exit a camper on the property. Maze then officials permission to enter the home.

Maze told troopers inside the home after they observed the 1-year old that she would fail a drug screen for marijuana and methamphetamine.

When troopers searched the camper drug paraphernalia and two containers of methamphetamine were found in a diaper bag.

Maze also told troopers the drugs in the diaper bag belonged to her and she and used methamphetamine before they had arrived with CPS workers. She went on to tell them she uses methamphetamine twice a month on average and had been using methamphetamine in the camper while the 1-year old was in the residence.

Maze is being held in North Central Regional Jail.

Another unidentified suspect at the property was also taken into custody for an outstanding warrant during the investigation.
