FAIRMONT, W.Va. — A former Bridgeport High School is awaiting sentencing after admitting to having a sexual relationship with a student.
Courtney Rankin entered a guilty plea to sexual intrusion or sexual contact against a student by a school employee and faces 1 to 5 years in prison at sentencing.
Rankin said she was in an abusive relationship and entered into the friendship that became sexual. She admitted to having sex with the 17-year old student 10 to 15 times at her apartment in White Hall.
Rankin was initially charged with sexual abuse.
As part of her arrangement, she will also be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of her life and cannot have contact with the victim or any children.
She is free on bond pending sentencing.
