KINGWOOD, W.Va. — The proposed Preston County Board of Education Levy has once again been rejected by county voters.

Unofficial results from 28 precincts reported for the 2024 General Election showed that 7,788 Preston County voters cast ballots against the levy, accounting for approximately 56.39 percent of the county votes. The proposed levy, which would have generated nearly $5 million annually for the Preston County Board of Education from 2025 to 2030, received worse results in comparison to the proposal placed on the ballot in the 2024 primary election, where 53.54 percent of voters voted against the levy.

The proposed levy would have gone toward general maintenance, operational expenses, classroom teachers, service personnel, and supplemental employees, among other allocations totaling around $4,950,000 per year if it passed. A simple majority vote was needed for the levy to pass.
