MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – One of the few Democrats in the House of Delegates has been re-elected in Monongalia County. John Williams fended off a challenge from Republican Summer Hartley. Williams earned 3,261 votes to Hartley’s 2,292 votes.
“It was a lot of work and I think people deserve campaigns where candidates put in a lot of work because campaigns are where dialogue happens,” Williams said.
Williams believes focusing on issues such as childcare and subjects that have a direct impact on people’s lives made a difference.
“I think the positivity of the campaign and the hard work I put in,” Williams speculated when asked why people supported his campaign.
Addressing the Public Employees Insurance Agency and healthcare for public employees will be a top priority for Williams when he returns to Charleston.
“That’s a huge fight. We just keep raising these premiums. I won’t vote for any PEIA premium increase,” Williams promised.
Williams was re-elected to his fifth term in the House of Delegates. He was first elected in 2016.
