MONONGALIA COUNTY, W.Va. — Detectives from the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department have arrested a pair from Morgantown in connection with theft from mailboxes and fraud.

Detectives say Jason Pancoast, 31, and Ashley Hoskins, 34, both of Morgantown, are accused of taking checks from mailboxes, increasing the amounts, and using the mobile deposit feature to slip the stolen money into their bank accounts. The pair are also accused of credit and debit card fraud.

Both were arrested following a traffic stop on Nov. 9 and have been released on personal recognizance bonds.

Detectives are following additional leads and believe more charges will be filed in the case.

The thefts were reported from the communities of Cassville, Maidsville, and specific locations like Pedlar Run, Jakes Run, Mel Brand Road, Guston Run Road, Lazzelle Union Road, Whispering Creek, Sugar Grove Rd, Sweet Pea Lane, and lower Aarons Creek.

Pancoast and Hoskins have been charged with felony forgery, fraudulent schemes, and conspiracy.
