GRANT TOWN, W.Va. — A Marion County couple has been charged after an investigation into suspected child abuse was conducted by the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.

On May 18, deputies received a report of potential child abuse from Grant Town and began their investigation.

One of the three juveniles in the home told police Samantha Perkins, 34, and Daniel Perkins, 56, had beat them.

When deputies observed bruises and blood on the juvenile they contacted Child Protective Services (CPS).

When CPS arrived they conducted a walk through with deputies and found trash scattered throughout the front of the residence as well as trash and dirt on the floor with a strong odor of raw sewage coming from the bathroom.

In the bathroom, officials said there was raw sewage overflowing in the toilet and an infestation of flies. In one of the bedrooms where three juveniles were located officials said there was a dirty mattress on the floor with a feeding tube a juvenile that appeared to be malnourished.

Samantha Perkins has been charged with child abuse.

Daniel Perkins has been charged with child neglect and child abuse.

Both are being held in North Central Regional Jail.
