RANDOLPH COUNTY, W.Va. — State police in Randolph County have charged a woman with two counts of malicious assault and fleeing with reckless indifference following a weekend pursuit Wednesday.

Troopers tried to stop Ashley Welch, 32, for an expired registration sticker on Route 15 when she failed to comply.

When troopers activated lights and sirens, Welch continued to flee on Red Lick Road and several other roads before returning to Route 15 in the Valley Head area.

During the pursuit, troopers said Welch brake-checked troopers in an effort to cause a crash. When she brake-checked a second trooper, the cruiser was struck twice, and she lost control and hit a power pole.

Welch is being held on a $40,000 bond in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
