WESTOVER, W.Va. — A Connecticut man arrested for a cold-case sexual assault in Monongalia County has been extradited to West Virginia to face charges.

Tyron Walker, 50, has been charged with second-degree sexual assault and is being held in the North Central Regional Jail on a $50,000 bond.

A 23-year-old woman reported a sexual assault to Westover police in May of 2000. Evidence, including DNA, was collected, but the technology was not advanced enough to identify the assailant.

In January of 2021, the Westover Police Department was contacted by the West Virginia State Police Forensic Laboratory about a possible match with a suspect, Tyron Walker. That sample also linked Walker to a sexual crime committed in Montana.

Detectives from the Westover Police Department reviewed the evidence collected decades ago and also spoke to the victim, who was able to recall the attack and confirm her statements to police decades ago.

A warrant was issued for Walker’s arrest as a fugitive from justice in June of 2023. In July of 2024, Walker was arrested in Connecticut and had been until his extradition this week.
