MORGANTOWN, W.Va. –– The City of Morgantown has officially named Gary Freshour as the next Fire Chief of the Morgantown Fire Department (MFD). The follows the retirement of both Chief Eugene Deem and Interim Chief John Lemley.

“I am honored to be the new Fire Chief of the Morgantown Fire Department,” said Freshour. “I feel thankful to continue serving the people of Morgantown in this new capacity. I will continue to work diligently to ensure that our citizens and visitors are safe.”

Freshour joined the Morgantown Fire Department in 2005 as a probationary firefighter. In Morgantown, he has held the rank of First Class Firefighter, Lieutenant, and Crew Captain. Prior to 2005, Freshour worked with the Star City Volunteer Fire Department.

“The department is in good hands with Gary Freshour,” said City Manager Kim Haws. “We are fortunate to have him in this leadership position. His wealth of knowledge and extensive background in fire management makes him an excellent fit for the role.”
