FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Police in Fairmont have arrested a 34-year old male and accused him of putting a 9-year old in a choke hold.

Police allege Matthew Hammons, 34, restrained the 9-year old, who is affected by a mental condition that causes erratic behavior in a choke hold when he lost his temper.

While Hammons had his hand around the child’s throat he putin the backseat of a vehicle and then tried to pull him back out by his head. When Hammons couldn’t pull the childout of the vehicle he then shattered the glass in the cargo area.

Police said a ring Hammons was wearing caused ascratch on the childs neck.

Hammons has been charged with strangulation and is being held in the Northern Regional Jail on a $10,000 bond.
