BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — A Bridgeport resident faces two felonies after a standoff with multiple agencies early Thursday.

Deputies from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shots fired call around 3:22 a.m. on Sunnybrook Lane.

When police arrived a man later identified as Morgan Knapp, 40, barricaded himself in a building.

Residents at the Maple Lake, Sunnybrook, and the Gables Apartments were placed on a temporary shelter in place order at that point.

Negotiators from the Harrison County SWAT team were able to make contact with Knapp who eventually exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident.

“We have a great working relationship among law enforcement in this county so we’re able to respond and handle situations. Sometimes, we forget about the important job 911 dispatchers do. They were the first to talk to the guy and kept him on the line, talking to him and beginning negotiations to end this peacefully,” Sheriff Robert Matheny said.

Knapp has been charged with transmitting false information about terroristic acts and intimidation or obstruction of a public official.

He is being held in the North Central Regional Jail on an $80,000 bond.
