MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia University alumni are ready to travel to Texas to support the Mountaineers during the Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl.
The WVU Alumni Association will team with the Mountaineer Athletic Club to host a Mountaineer Meetup that will take place on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. central time, shortly ahead of the start of the Frisco Bowl. CEO of the WVU Alumni Association Kevin Berry is ready to be joined by hundreds of Mountaineer fans at the Green Gator Frisco, where they’ll celebrate WVU pride with familiar faces.
“The location is going to be the Green Gator Frisco, which is less than two-tenths of a mile from Toyota Stadium,” said Berry, “With an incredible afternoon of Mountaineer camaraderie as we gear up to cheer the Mountaineers to a victory against the Memphis Tigers later that evening,” he said.
WVU giveaways will be hosted throughout the Mountaineer Meetup with appearances by members of the WVU community. This will include an exclusive performance by the Pride of West Virginia Mountaineer Marching Band, as well as opportunities to meet the Mountaineer mascot and members of the WVU Cheerleading Squad. Food and drink discounts will also be offered throughout the event, all within eyeshot of where the Frisco Bowl will take place.
“We’re going to start at 4:30 p.m. we’ll run it up to pretty close to when the game kicks off,” said Berry. “There’s going to be WVU giveaways, there’s going to be food and beverage specials, and we’ve arranged to have the Pride of West Virginia, the mascot, as well as our cheerleaders, will make special appearances,” he said.
The Mountaineer Meetup will be hosted in conjunction with the Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter of the WVU Alumni. It will also be hosted less than a three-minute walk from Frisco’s Toyota Stadium with parking available within walking distance from the Green Gator Frisco. Berry also encouraged Mountaineer fans to come in early and check out the City of Frisco, where the WVU community is expected to be welcomed as guests.
“You know, it’s always great to have the opportunity to have the Mountaineers in your backyard,” said Berry on WAJR’s Talk of the Town. “The folks in the Dallas area are looking forward to having Mountaineer fans from around the country to come into Frisco, Texas, and spend a little bit of time with them,” he said.
For the several thousand WVU fans expected to arrive at Frisco, Texas, ahead of the start of the Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl, Berry encourages them to check out the WVU Alumni Association website to look at all room and travel options available for the weekend. This will include direct links to the WVU Athletics Bowl Central page as well as links for hotel recommendations and opportunities to buy tickets. With thousands of Mountaineer fans expected to make the flight down south, Berry hopes they can join the WVU Alumni Association and be a part of the Mountaineer Meetup.
“I always tell people what I love most about bowl games is that it’s almost like going on a vacation with hundreds, if not thousands, of your closest friends who are also Mountaineer fans,” said Berry. “So we’re certainly looking forward to seeing Mountaineers (in Texas),” he said.
The Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl will air on ESPN starting at 9 p.m. eastern time.
