WESTOVER, W.Va. –– The City of Westover is ready to celebrate the holidays with their 1st Annual Westover Winterfest.

The festivities will take place at the Westover VFW on Sunday, December 15, starting at 3:00 p.m., where Morgantown area residents are encouraged to stop by and enjoy a variety of Christmas-themed activities. This will vary from arts and crafts to live music and a ceremonial Christmas tree lighting that will take place just outside of the VFW.

“It’s happening this Sunday from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.,” said Winterfest volunteer Summer Hartley. “We’ve got a live, large Christmas tree, which we’re doing a lighting of at 6 p.m., and then, in the Westover VFW, we have a lot of activities going on in the banquet room,” she said.

The majority of the activities will be hosted inside the Westover VFW Banquet Hall during the Winterfest. This will include Christmas ornaments and cookie decorations, face painting, a family photo booth, and a hot chocolate station. Live holiday dance performances will also take place by the Motown Strutters and Morgantown Dance.

“We have face painting from Paint Me Pretty, lots of kids activities, Hartley Health Solutions is sponsoring an ornament decorating table, and so is Morgantown Dance,” said Hartley.

The lighting of the Westover Christmas tree will conclude festivities with Santa Claus scheduled to make a special appearance. Ornaments made by Westover residents will also be placed on the tree as part of a separate presentation before the tree is lighted. This will be the start of the lighting of the Westover Christmas tree that will take place every evening up to the end of the holidays.

“The tree is up right along Holland Avenue there in the parking lot, so everyone in Westover can see it when they’re driving by,” said Hartley. “And Santa will be arriving, and Santa will be actually conducting the lighting of the tree for us, so that’s great,” she said.

The 1st Annual Westover Winterfest will be free to attend, with parking available in the Westover VFW parking lot and across the street on Holland Avenue. Free food, Christmas treats, and hot cocoa will also be provided by close to a dozen community partners, including local churches, small businesses, and city leaders. With the festivities free for all ages, the Westover community encourages you to stop by and celebrate the holidays.

“We have a lot of activities for the kids, a lot of activities for the family, and we just hope everyone is going to turn out and enjoy the fun with us,” Hartley said.
