MONONGALIA COUNTY, W.Va. — The Cheat Lake Volunteer Fire Department led a water rescue Friday afternoon at the Cooper’s Rock Trout Pond.

Firefighters responded at 12:28 p.m. and quickly recovered the patient from the icy water and put him in the care Monongalia EMS who also responded to the scene.

The Brookhaven Volunteer Fire Department, Cooper’s Rock State Park Rangers, West Virginia State Police, and West Virginia State Parks personnel responded.

Officials urge those who plan to participate in outdoor winter activities to prepare by having extra warm dry clothes, a full tank of gas, having extra sources of heat, and snacks for energy.
