FARMINGTON, W.Va. — Former member of the West Virginia House of Delegates and leader of the Marion County Rescue Squad, Michael Angelucci has died.

On WAJR’s “Talk of the Town,” Senator Joey Garcia, D, Marion, 13, said he campaigned with Angelucci in 2018 and 2020. Garcia remembered his work ethic and the way he used his passion for the community to get things done for the citizens of Marion County in Charleston.

“One of the hardest-working candidates I’ve ever seen,” Garcia said. “That year, he was in all parts of Marion County when we had a three-member district with about 55,000 people, and he knocked on a ton of doors and put in the work.”

During one of the days of knocking on doors, Angelucci took Garcia to his hometown of Farmington, where he got to meet and talk with his family and neighbors.

“Mike was from Farmington, and he had such pride, not only for Marion County but for his town of Farmington,” Garcia said. “He’s such a family person and someone his neighbors know.”

Garcia said Angelucci was very passionate about health care, and when Alecto Health Care Services abruptly announced intentions to close the Fairmont Regional Medical Center in 2020,. Angelucci was leading the conversations with the governor’s office to keep quality health care options in the Fairmont area.

“The John Manchin Snr. Health Care Center was another one where he was so passionate about it,” Garcia said. “He was always on the front lines to make sure people have adequate health care, not going other places but staying here in Marion County.”

Angelucci was awarded the Marion County Chamber of Commerce’s Public Servant of the Year in 2020 for his work in health care during the COVID-19 pandemic.
