MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Tickets to ride the tubing hill at Monongalia County’s Chestnut Ridge Park are now on sale for the first time this winter.
Monongalia County Commissioner Tom Bloom announced via correspondence from representatives at the park that tickets have officially gone on sale for sessions on the tubing hill that will be hosted on Thursday all the way through Sunday. Anyone interested is encouraged to purchase tickets fast, with sessions for Saturday and Sunday reportedly already sold out.
“They are wanting the public to know that thanks to the recent snowfall and the snowmaking equipment that is all perfectly running, they have plenty of fresh snow,” said Bloom. “And what they’re going to do is start selling tickets for Thursday through Sunday, he said.
Tubing hill tickets will be available for the Thursday session scheduled between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets for two sessions are available on Friday that take place between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. With tickets available through the Monongalia County Parks official website, there’s an expectation that those tickets will sell out like the sessions scheduled for later in the weekend.
“Thursday is just 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., but there are two different sessions on each of the other days,” Bloom said.
This will be the first time that the Chestnut Ridge Park Tubing Hill, and the over $500,000 in equipment that is a part of it, will be fully utilized by the public this winter. Despite the hill opening to the public earlier this month, the tow system was not functioning as well as warmer weather prevented the hill from being opened for no more than a couple of days. With the tow system back in working order and frigid temperatures allowing for the snow machine to be put to use as well, there’s an expectation that the hill will sell tickets for sessions in the near future.
“With the weather looking the way it is, they are looking to stay open for the next several weeks,” Bloom said.
Tickets for the Chestnut Ridge Park Tubing Hill are on sale for $10 per person and are restricted to 50 people per each two-hour session that will be hosted over the next four days. Only Chestnut Ridge rental tubes are allowed on the hill, and availability for sessions will be posted on the Mon County Parks and Recreation and Chestnut Ridge Park Facebook pages. With tickets selling fast, Monongalia County families interested in enjoying the winter weather are encouraged to act fast.
“We’re very excited, the cost is only $10 per person per spot, and I hope people use it,” Bloom said.
