CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Officials from Hope Gas report activities associated with the Sunday explosion in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood have been completed. Crews are replacing a section of pipeline on South Chestnut Street that was not associated with the Sunday events.
According to an update from the company, Hope Gas crews have been working around the clock since the incident to get displaced families back into their and ensure their safety.
Since gas service was restored Tuesday evening, Hope Gas crews have been available 24-hours-a-day to help customers re-light appliances as they returned to their homes. While re-lighting appliances Hope employees inspect lines inside the home, meters, and appliances to ensure safe operation. During those inspections employees did find safety concerns at a small number of homes that will be restored when the problems are addressed.
The state Fire Marshal is leading the ongoing investigation and Hope Gas is working with their staff.

We understand this event has raised considerable concern among local residents and thank the community for working with our team throughout the process. Hope Gas would like to reassure the community that the situation is safe. Hope Gas is a highly regulated utility and has strict processes and protocols in place to ensure the safety of our customers and the community. Our highly trained workforce followed all protocols before restoring service and allowing community members back in their homes. Hope Gas personnel will continue to have a presence and survey the area over the next month to reassure residents of the safety of their community.
Natural gas emergencies can be reported by calling the Hope Gas 800-934-3187. If residents smell natural gas or suspect a gas leak, leave the area immediately, warn others to stay away and call 911 and the Hope Gas emergency hotline.
