Barbour County Sheriff’s Department announces death of deputy

PHILIPPI, W.Va. — The Barbour County Sheriff’s Department announced that one of their deputies has passed away.

According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, Deputy Todd Deffet was reported to have died with no details released on the circumstances of his death. In the post left by the department, Deffet leaves behind a legacy of courage and commitment to protecting others.

The Barbour County Sheriff’s Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A post expressing condolences was also made on the City of Philippi Facebook page.
