MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The final candidate list of who is running for Morgantown City Council in the upcoming municipal election has been officially released.
The Morgantown City Clerk’s Office announced that four of the six individuals who submitted candidacy packets to run for council have been verified by City Clerk Christine Wade and will be placed on the ballot of the April 29 election.
Small business owner Jodi Hollingshead is the lone candidate running in the Second Ward, Morgantown Deputy Mayor and the longest tenured member currently on the council Jenny Selin is the long candidate running in the Fourth Ward. Small business owner Stephanie Hunt and former Main Street Morgantown President Mark Downs have been verified to run in the Sixth Ward.
Two additional candidates didn’t gather the required 75 signatures from within their respective wards to be placed on the ballot. One was a prospective candidate in the Second Ward, the other was from the Fourth Ward.
Candidates who wish to withdrawal their name from the ballot will need to do so before March 30. Write-in candidates have until April 15 to submit certificates of announcement.
Early voting will take place between April 16 until April 26 at the Historic Depot Building at Hazel Ruby McQuain Park. That will take place Monday through Thursday between 7 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. and Saturday between 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.
Two items for voter consideration will be on the ballot for any resident who choses to participate. The first being an amendment to the city’s charter that would allow city council to waive residency requirements for the city manager. The second, a referendum to decide whether Article 1157 (Camping on Public Property) should be repealed.
Election Day is April 29 with polls scheduled to be open from 6:30 a.m.- 7:30 p.m. A listing of polling locations are available on the Morgantown City Clerk’s webpage.
