MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Morgantown Police Department has arrested nine people in connection with an assault that took place in downtown Morgantown in early February.
According to criminal complaints found in Monongalia County Magistrate Court, Eli Marva, 22 of Uniontown and Rylan Rock, 18 of Clarksburg have each been charged with felony malicious assault after they were identified through video surveillance footage.
The incident took place on February, 9 when officers responded to a call at Casa D’Amici on High Street where a victim was found bleeding with a laceration on his head.
According to a criminal complaint, the altercation started as an attempt to steal the victim’s diamond necklace, which was taken by the individuals who participated in the assault.
Video footage taken inside the restaurant showed that two of the nine people charge kicked the victim in the head while laying motionless on the ground with others participating in striking the victim later in the video.
The City of Morgantown is set to formerly release information on all nine suspects charged in the coming days.
