MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — After an executive session lasting nearly seven hours the West Virginia University Board of Governors has confidentially selected their top candidate.
BOG Chairman Richard Pill said the members had robust discussions about a range of topics but did not take any action, but did decide on their top candidate in the search process.
“At a time when the landscape of higher education is changing we think that this person can best lead West Virginia University, your flagship university forward and serve as its’ 27th president,” Pill said. “I request a motion to select candidate “A” as WVU president and authorize the board of officers to negotiate and finalize a contractual arrangement with the selected candidate.”
By a vote of 15 to 2 the board approved the action for candidate “A.”
Presidential Search Committee Chair Patrice Harris previously said after initial interviews the field would be reduced to the top three to five candidates. Additional in-person interviews will be conducted with the finalists, and the next president of WVU will be announced in the spring of 2025.
The BOG has also decided to keep confidential the names of those selected in the process.
