GYPSY, W.Va. — Deputies from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department made one arrest after a pursuit involving a side-by-side Thursday in the Gypsy area.
Deputies said James Short, 35, was operating a side-by-side on the Gypsy Bridge with a headlight out and no registration when they attempted to make a traffic stop.
When deputies activated a siren, Short sped up and fled. Short reportedly fled at speeds of up to 50-miles per hour and almost crashed several times. Short rolled the side-by-side into the yard of a home on Third Street when he caught the edge of the road at the intersection of Main Street and Vincent Place.
A female passenger who was trapped in the vehicle told deputies she asked Short to stop several times.
Deputies determined the side-by-side was stolen during the investigation. A pistol and drug paraphernalia were also found in the vehicle.
Short was unable to lawfully possess a weapon due to prior felony convictions in 2009 and 2022.
Short has been charged with fleeing with reckless indifference and prohibited person in possession of a firearm and. He is being held in the North Central Regional Jail on a $75,000 bond.
